Listening to the Universe

Sometimes it takes a loud speaker, like the other night. I grabbed a salad and kept hearing “Assistance needed in the greeting card aisle.” “Manager needed in the Greeting Card isle.” And then it hit me, after four messages from the “universe” I need to pick up a birthday card for my brother in-law.

Sometimes I need the swift kick in the shin. Other times, just a gentle nudge.

On the way to work, I heard the author, Will Bowan of the acclaimed A Complaint Free World. Interesting, liked what I was hearing. Then mid-day a colleague sends around an email. She was listening to the same interview – and reminded us that at a development session on Toxic Personalities, this may be something worth checking into. And now, today, I come across Joe Vitale’s great article about his interview with Will. It highlights a conversation he had with Oprah.

After this gentle nudge, okay shove! I figured I needed to do something.

I listen. Sometimes more intently. Sometimes only to the messages I want to hear.

I think the best practice in developing the skill to listen to the Universe is to be open. Simple. Be open to the idea that your gut is “right on!

And act on it.

My listening – and finally hearing – has busted my seams with passion around the ideals of engagement. Engaging with life where you – and I – take 100% responsibility.

The no complaining kind of folds nicely in there – whaddyathink?

  1. A fast from complaining? That is an excellent notion to bring up. Somehow the thought of never complaining takes a world of weight of one’s shoulders. Not having to find fault in anyone or anything? All the time to spend on positive things? I love it. Thank you. Good post. You have changed the way I think today.
